Linnea Stein

YANKTON, S.D. – Linnea Stein, 92, died Nov. 4, 2023, under hospice care at Angelhaus in Yankton, S.D.

A 2 p.m. memorial service will be held Nov. 10 at First Trinity Lutheran Church, Bloomfield, with burial at the Bloomfield Cemetery.

Linnea Ann (Carr) Stein was born Nov. 22, 1930, to Archie and Tina (Schwarz) Carr in Sioux City, Iowa. In 1944, her family moved to Bloomfield. Linnea graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1948. Following graduation, Linnea taught country school at District 106 north of Bloomfield.

Linnea married Robert Stein at First Trinity Lutheran Church, Bloomfield, where they were both confirmed members, Jan. 28, 1951.

Together, they farmed on the family farm southwest of Bloomfield. They had five children: Randall Lynn, Tamara Jean, Royce Allen, Annette Marie and Jayne Louise.

Linnea helped on the farm and always had a big garden. She also worked at the Bloomfield Elementary School as the librarian.

After they retired from the farm in 1991, they moved to Kohles Acres in the Lewis and Clark Lake area.

Bob and Linnea enjoyed traveling to many state capitals and had many fishing vacations to Minnesota after they retired.

In 1999, they moved to Yankton. She was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Yankton, participating in the Over 50 group, quilters and funeral committee for many years. Linnea and Bob also volunteered at the Corps of Discovery Welcome Center for six years.

Linnea was very good at sewing and quilting; she made clothes for her children and lots of quilts for her children and grandchildren.

Linnea was know to her grandchildren as Grandma “Nae.” She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who was very proud of her family.

She enjoyed playing cards and board games, doing crossword and word search puzzles, and reading.

Her husband, Robert, died in 2020. She leaves behind her children, Randy (Deb) Stein, Tami (Bill) Cook, Royce (Nina) Stein, Annette (Neal) Seagren and Jayne (Paul) Jensen; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her parentsin- law, Alfred and Lillie Stein; and her sisters and brothers-in-law, Delores (Maynard) Worley, Arlin (Chris) Wulf and Romona (Paul) Wearne.
