LCC Jr. High girls basketball teams find plenty of success

COLERIDGE — Twenty ladies made up the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Junior High Girls basketball team.

Practice started in late November and the girls worked very hard every day to get prepared for their first game against Plainview.

The girls had a great start to that game and kept it going through the whole game coming away with a very convincing win. The girls had holiday break and came back after the break looking to make a run and win a handful of games in a row to start the season.

They practiced hard with all the girls showing up to practice everyday with a goal to have a great start to the season.

The team was able to start 8-0 on the season. In that 8-0 start, the girls came home Champions from the Ponca Junior High Girls basketball tournament for the second year in a row.

During that same time frame the girls “B” team had a record of 5-1 which included a second place finish at the Ponca Tournament.

After that tournament, the girls came back home and played a very tough game against Cedar Catholic and even though they played very well the girls lost both at the “A” and “B” team levels.

This marked the end of the girls “B” team games, finishing the season with a 6-2 record.

The “A” girls had one more tournament and that was in Hartington for the Hartington Public Junior High Girls tournament.

The girls played a very tough and scrappy Wynot team. Being down two starters, the girls led the game with just seconds left, but after a very deep shot at the buzzer from Wynot that banked, the girls lost a very close and well defensively played game.

The girls came back on the second day of the tournament and played Wausa and played very well, shot the ball extremely well and passed the ball well. The girls came home with the win and third place in the tournament.

The LCC girls “A” team finished the season with a 9-2 record. The coaches want to wish the eighth grade girls good luck in their future.
