Lady Bears season ends in Crofton

CROFTON — The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge girls’ basketball team ended its 2021-22 season in the semifinals of the C2-5 Sub-District Tournament at Crofton after opening the tournament with a win over Hartington-Newcastle the night before.

Crofton was the top seed and left little doubt they deserved that lofty status as they turned back the Lady Bears 68-37 to send LCC home with a respectable 13-12 record and improving to 21-4 for the Lady Warriors.

There were some bright spots for the Lady Bears in their season finale.

Such as Kinsey Hall who continued her torrid shooting spree with 22 points against a team that has been at or near the top of the C2 ratings all season.

Hall accomplished her night on 7-of-9 shooting from the field including a perfect 3-for-3 from behind the three-point line.

Haley Christensen added on 10 while Toni Thompson and Berniece McCorkindale each contributed two and Tali Erwin had a free throw.

Hall grabbed six rebounds and McCorkindale and Eriksen each had three.

Erwin handed out a couple of assists and Eriksen, Rachel Rasmussen and Reggan Kuhlman each recorded a steal.

Crofton went to place second in the sub-district as Ponca came to town and knocked off the Lady Warriors in the C2-5 Sub-District Finals, 52-41.

Ponca and Crofton will both move on to his week’s District finals as the Lady Warriors grabbed one of the two available wild card slots to advance.

Crofton will take on Superior at Central Community College in Columbus while Ponca will host Pender in Ponca. Both games are scheduled for Friday, Feb. 25 with the Crofton game tipping off at 6 p.m. and the Ponca game starting at 7 p.m.
