Casey earns gold

WINSIDE — Four Quad County Northeast Blaze wrestlers earned medals during competition here Saturday at the 52nd annual Winside Wrestling Invitational.

Kolby Casey earned first-place honors in the 195-pound division putting together a perfect 5-0 mark, capped by a 5-1 win over Winside’s Mason Topp in the title match.

Fischer Carson also advanced to the championship match Saturday. He ended up having to settle for second place in the heavyweight division, though.

Ajay Gubbels posted a 3-2 record in the 170-pound division. He dropped a 4-0 decision to Ponca’s Aiden Cook in the match.

The Blaze also earned a fourthplace medal from Gavin Wortman, wrestling at 152 pounds.

Daniel Puppe competed at 145 pounds at the meet for the Blaze, while Andrew Sohler competed at 160 and Justin Backer competed at 182 pounds.
