LCC sees slight decrease in enrollment numbers

LAUREL - Laurel-Concord-Coleridge School saw a slight dip in school enrollment compared to last year’s numbers.

A total of 428 students - 175 at the elementary, 122 at the middle school, and 131 at the high school - are currently enrolled, a decrease of five students from the previous year.

“The school continues to see a trend of consistent district-wide student enrollment,” said Superintendent Jeremy Christiansen. “Enrollment at specific grade levels naturally fluctuates from year to year depending on community demographics.”

For instance, last year the sixth grade class contained 39 students and this year there’s only 25. This year, the seventh and ninth grade classes both have 39 students each and are the largest.

Laurel-Concord-Coleridge is the district’s largest school but were not the only ones to see slight decreases in enrollment.

Wausa Public School is down two students from last year. Cedar County’s largest school district at Laurel-Concord-Coleridge also saw a decrease of five students compared with last year’s numbers.

Cedar County’s parochial schools saw a decrease as well with East-West Catholic Elementary in Bow Valley down two students, Holy Trinity down seven students and Cedar Catholic down nine.

Three Cedar County schools - Hartington-Newcastle, Randolph and Wynot - saw increases in enrollment. Hartington-Newcastle netted an additional 19 students, Randolph up 10 and Wynot an extra five.
