LCC has filled several vacant positions

LAUREL — Vacant positions are now being filled at Laurel-Concord-Coleridge School.

Supt. Jeremy Christiansen told School Board members Monday the Central Office Administrative Assistant position has been offered to and accepted by Megan Granquist.

“Megan was formerly employed by LCC in a Library position. The past four years she has worked at Wayne State College in the human resources department. “

She has an Associate’s degree as an Administrative Assistant and anticipates completion of her Bachelor’s degree in business administration in the near future, Christiansen said.

Three of four paraprofessional positions have been filled for the upcoming school year.

High School - Meaghan Vollers recently moved to the area with her husband (Jay) and young daughter from Louisiana where she has been a high school science teacher for the past three years.

Middle School - Alyssa Arens is a 2016 graduate from Hartington-Newcastle High School. She has most recently worked in the healthcare field and is excited for this new opportunity.

Elementary - Corrine Reifenrath is joining the elementary school staff and brings work experience in office settings, plus much volunteer experience with youth.

Full Time Custodian - Joe Ellis has been hired for a full-time (12-month) custodial position to be assigned to the Middle School campus. He previously worked for LCC School in a custodial role. He will begin his duties in early August.

Route Bus Driver - James Roberts has accepted a route bus driver position for the upcoming school year. He will be driving the afternoon portion of a shared route with Larry Carlson. The District is still seeking to fill

The District is still seeking to fill one paraprofessional position at the Elementary level.

The Board also learned Monday that the State Board of Education has approved and accredited the school district for the 2021-2022 school year indicating that the school has met or exceeded all requirements as outlined in Rule 10.

USDA will continue the current waiver of meal fees (breakfast and lunch) for students through the upcoming 2021-2022 school year.

Students will continue to be responsible for paying for milk at the elementary level, as well as for ala carte items and second servings. The information will be shared with families in the near future prior to Pre-registration to be held on Aug. 3.

The board also renewed the Nebraska Rural Community Schools Association membership on Monday.

LCC Handbooks (Student-Parent, Activity, Faculty, Classified) will be presented for review and approval at the August meeting.

Once again the plan is to disseminate handbooks via digital format this school year. Recipients will sign to acknowledge access and acceptance of the handbooks. Individuals will also have the opportunity to request a printed version of handbooks.

Christiansen assured Board members they will have local autonomy concerning the draft Health Standards being considered by the State Board of Education.

“It is important to note that no matter what draft of standards is ultimately adopted by the State Board of Education, the local school board has complete discretion whether or not to adopt the curriculum for your district. Once standards are approved by the State Board of Education, school districts have one year to adopt the standards or standards deemed equal to or more rigorous than the state-approved standards,” he said.

It is important to note NASB’s comment that “As of now, personnel at NDE are working on a second draft which will be put out for public comment as the last draft was.”

The school district has participated throughout the last year with the Cedar and Dixon Counties Hazard Mitigation Plan (HMP) Update. The plan has been reviewed and approved by the state and FEMA.

At this time, each entity is to consider adopting the plan locally via resolution to finalize our participation in the HMP. Once the district adopts this plan, it will become eligible for project grant funding to assist with implementation of actions in this plan.

The next meeting for the board of education will be Aug. 10 at 7 p.m. in Laurel.
