Loberg, Morningside advance onto NAIA National Semifinals
SIOUX CITY, Iowa — Drew Loberg and his Morningside teammates opened the Championship Series in the first round at home in Sioux City, Iowa, on Saturday, Nov. 18, with an impressive 63-7 rout over No. 16 Sterling College (KS). Loberg recorded two tackles on the day.
The No. 3 rated Mustangs followed that up with another decisive victory on Saturday, by defeating No. 8 ranked Saint Xavier (ILL) 52-7 in the Quarterfi nals of the Championship Series, which was also played in Sioux City.
The Mustangs raised their record to 13-0 and advanced to next Saturday’s NAIA National Semifinals, where the Mustangs will travel to Fort Wayne, Ind., to face No. 1 ranked and reigning NAIA National Champion Saint Francis. The Mustangs will seek revenge after their 2016 season ended with a 42-35 loss at Saint Francis in the quarterfi nals, a game that Morningside led 27-7 early in the third quarter.
