Library begins new afterschool youth programs

RANDOLPH - The Lied Randolph Public Library is gearing up for September programs.

The library will host its afterschool activities once a month for each grade. Registration will be required to help ensure enough materials on hand. To register, patrons can email, call, send a Facebook message or stop in to the library.

Dates and times are as follows: Sept. 15: Kindergarten and first grade, 4 – 5 p.m.

Sept. 22: second and third grades, 4 – 5 p.m.

Activities includes stories, crafts and games.

Sept. 29: fourth, fifth and sixth grades, 4- 5 p.m.

Activities include creating a project using Makedo tools and cardboard.

On Monday, Sept. 19, from 2 to 5 p.m., the library will be featuring a challenging program called “Break Out Box,” similar to escape rooms. Register a team and a time by Sept. 15. Prizes will be given.

Monday morning Story Hour will begin every week at 10 a.m. beginning Sept. 19. Babies, toddlers, and preschoolers are welcome to the library to join in on stories, music, movement, rhymes, and crafting that develop early literacy skills. No registration is required.

The library is continuing with its 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten library program that encourages all Randolph families and caregivers to read 1,000 books with their young children before they enter kindergarten. Story Hour books may be counted toward that goal. Inquire at the library for more information.

Did you know that the meeting room at the library is available to rent for personal use? It is the perfect size for smaller gatherings, easily seating 36 people at tables. Cost is $35 for personal and/or business use. There is no cost for nonprofit organizations.

The library invites residents to stop in and check out the September display for Suicide Prevention & Awareness Month. The focus is on suicide awareness/mental health and we will display several books available on this subject - both fiction and non-fiction. Osmond General Hospital will supply flyers and handouts from its Senior Life Solutions Program that also focuses on this awareness month theme.
