Osmond-Randolph Lady Hawks play three games in one week

The Osmond-Randolph Lady Hawks were in action against Elkhorn Valley, Laurel-Concord-Coleridge and Plainview last week.

Hawks vs. Falcons

RANDOLPH — The Osmond-Randolph Lady Hawks took on the Elkhorn Valley Falcons on Monday, Jan. 23, in Randolph. The visiting Falcons came out strong right away in the first half, scoring 13 points in each of the first two quarters. Osmond- Randolph found themselves down at half to a very good team, 14-26.

Elkhorn Valley put together a very strong third quarter, scoring 18 and holding the Hawks to only 3 points scored in the quarter. The fourth quarter saw the teams trade points. Ultimately it was the visiting Falcons that came away victorious, 57-29.

LAUREL — The following day, on Tuesday, Jan. 24, the Osmond-Randolph Hawks traveled to Laurel. After the opening quarter, LCC held a slim 10-9 advantage over the visiting Hawks. The Bears were able to increase that lead after the second quarter. LCC would lead going into the halftime break, 26-20.

The Hawks made a strong defensive effort a high priority for the second half. They were able to hold the Bears to only 6 third-quarter points, netting 5 points of their own in the stanza.

The final quarter was full of action.

Down 36-31 with 0:26 on the clock, a driving layup by Cali Gutz cut the lead 36-33.

The Hawks were able to foul right away on the inbound to send the Bears to the free throw line for a 1 and 1. A miss on the first shot landed into the hands of Keli Aschoff and she pushed the ball up the court.

She was able to find Gutz in the corner who netted the 3 to tie the game 36-36 with 10 seconds left on the clock.

The Bears inbounded the ball and were able to go the length of the court, put up a shot near the hoop, fouled, and one. They converted the free throw. The Hawks came down the court and a Laurel foul sent Aschoff to the free throw line for a 1 and 1.

A miss on the first free throw led to a foul to send the Bears back to the free throw line where they hit one to make it a 40-36 advantage. A Hawks shot at the end fell short and the Hawks dropped a tough one.

OSMOND — The Hawks were back in action on Thursday, Jan. 26, for Parent’s Night against Plainview in Osmond. In a solid defensive battle in the first quarter, Keli Aschoff was able to bank in a 3 at the buzzer to give Osmond-Randolph an 8-4 advantage after the first quarter. The visiting Pirates put together two very good quarters back-to-back in the second and third quarters, scoring 16 in each to take a 36-26 lead into going into the final period. The Hawks weren't able to overcome the deficit as the final score favored Plainview, 43-35.
