Tom died Oct. 10, 2022, at Avera Creighton Care Centre, Creighton. Thomas Lee Cunningham, son of Boyd and Ellen (Brummels) Cunningham, was born Aug. 25, 1958, at Norfolk. He began school in Randolph before his family moved to the family farm near Wausa. Tom then graduated from Wausa Public School and attended Midland College.

Tom married Shirley Peters June 3, 1978, at Fremont. They were blessed with three children, William “Justin,” Kristin and Alexandra.

Tom served his country in the United States Army from 1982 until 1986. After his discharge, the family returned to Wausa, and Tom began his three-decade career of over the road trucking. He hauled many different commodities throughout the Midwest and west coast, but his passion was hauling livestock. Tom received many phone calls from other drivers requesting his expertise on which road to take and his sense of direction. He will be missed by many in the area for his trucking knowledge.

Tom was a member of Thabor Lutheran Church, Wausa, where he served on the church council. He was a lifetime member of White Tails Unlimited. He enjoyed raising cattle, was very involved in 4-H, and instilled a strong work ethic in his children when it came to feeding and caring for their cattle. Tom volunteered for many years at the Knox County Fair and served as the Small Beef Superintendent.

Tom was especially close to his classmates from the Wausa High School class of 1976. He treasured the long-lasting friendships that he had with them.

Thomas is survived by his wife, Shirley, Wausa; children, William “Justin” Cunningham, Wausa; Kristin (Andy) Walker, Lincoln; and Alexandra (Trevor) Wiebelhaus, Wausa; and four grandchildren, Addyson and Allysa Walker, Bentley Cunningham and Sutton Wiebelhaus.
