Bonnie M. Hirchert

LAUREL — Bonnie M. Hirchert, 86, Laurel, formerly of Dixon, died Nov. 23, 2017, at Park View Haven Nursing Home, Coleridge. Funeral services were Nov. 28 at United Methodist Church, Laurel, with Rev. Dave York and Lay Minister Raymond Butts officiating. Honorary pallbearers were Bonnie’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren, James White, Stacy Stripes, Tamara Courts, Damien Erickson, Brenden Stripes, Alex Courts, Sam Stripes, James Stripes, Lucas Stripes and Scarlett Courts. Active pallbearers were Brian Hirchert, Rick Courts, Brad Stolze, Carl Stolze, Duane Stolze and Miles Petersen. Interment was in the Laurel Cemetery, Laurel. Arrangements were under the direction of Hasemann Funeral Home, Laurel. Bonnie Mae Hirchert was born Aug. 26, 1931, on the family farm near Dixon, to Ernest and Mable (Fitch) Knoell. She grew up and attended school in Dixon and went on to graduate from Dixon High School in 1948. She attended 12 weeks of college at Wayne State College and then taught in schools for three years. Bonnie met her husband, Carol, through her brother and sister-in-law, in 1948. They were married Dec. 28, 1950, at the United Methodist Church, Dixon. Bonnie traveled with Carol to several army training bases. The couple spent several years farming near Dixon. Over the years, the couple lived in the Dixon, Laurel and Wayne communities. She sold Avon and then became the Dixon Post Master. They retired and moved into Laurel. Bonnie was a 4-H leader, member of a county extension club and was a skilled seamstress. She was a former member of the Dixon United Methodist Church where she held several church board offi ces and currently is a member of the United Methodist Church, Laurel. Bonnie moved to Park View Haven, Coleridge, July 11, 2017. Bonnie is survived by her children, Lucinda “Cindy” White, Sioux City, Iowa; Vickie Hirchert, South Sioux City; Brian Hirchert, Wynot; and Sandra (Raymond) Butts, Monroe, Mich.; sisters, Melva Pinkelman, Coleridge, and Marlene (Melfred) Petersen, Hinton, Iowa; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Richard (Linda) Hirchert, Dakota City; and nieces and nephews. Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carol, in 2012; sister, JoEllen Stolze; brothers, Boyd and Donald Knoell; and sister-in-law, Bonnie (Hirchert) Knoell. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.
