Cedar County Extension hosts babysitting clinic

HARTINGTON — Nebraska Extension of Cedar County sponsored an informative clinic on babysitting May 26 at the Hartington City Auditorium for 25 youth from across Cedar County.

Many useful topics were covered during the day by the Extension Educator, Jackie Steffen, and Extension Assistant, Aurora Urwiler, including The Business of Babysitting, Child Development, Basic First Aid, Food and Nutrition, Safety and Entertainment.

Since the babysitter’s first priority is safety, safety was stressed heavily during this clinic. First aid kits were made, and Patty Schieffer and Dirk Dailey discussed first aid and gave tours of the ambulance.

A parent panel, consisting of Kayla Gubbels, Renae Mainquist, Kathi Gubbels, Cassie Gubbels and Katrina Kathol, brought their children to provide some real-life insights into the world of babysitting. To end the day, the babysitters’ knowledge was tested and certificates of completion were handed out.

The day was full of useful life skills and fun.
