Osmond Tigers complete football season with home game

(By Coach Wyatt Schuettler) The Osmond Tigers completed their football season with a road game against Wynot on Oct. 7 and a home game against Creighton on Oct. 14, and fell just outside the playoff bubble this year.

Osmond took on the Wynot Blue Devils on Friday Oct. 7, on a fairweathered day in Wynot.

The Tiger defense was able to hold the Blue Devils to 32 yards rushing, but a couple of well-placed passes from Wynot helped them put points on the board. At half time it was 190. The Tigers were able to come out after half and punch the ball into the end zone from a yard out.

Despite the score the Tigers were able to move and had 163 yards rushing, led by Alex Vinson with 95 yards. Trevin Larson with 48 and Hunter Buchanan with 20. Trevin had the lone touchdown for the Tigers, and passed for five yards. Defensively, Alex Vinson had 13 total tackles with two tackles for loss. Younger brother Jaxon had 11 total tackles, and Bradee Gubbels and Hunter Buchanan chipped in with seven and six total tackles, respectively. Every Tiger was able to get in the game on both sides of the ball and make a difference in the game.

Creighton 20, Osmond 8

The Creighton Bulldogs came to town for the football season finale on Friday, Oct. 14. The Bulldogs were first to score and were able to keep the Tigers out of the end zone for most of the night.

Offensively, the Tigers' rushing attack was led by Trevin Larson with 95 yards and a 41 yard scamper for a touchdown. Alex Vinson and Hunter Buchanan added 40 and one, respectively. Larson tossed the ball for 40 yards to Owen Severson (35) and Buchanan (5).

Defensively, the Tigers were led by Alex with 20 total tackles, two for a loss. Bradee Gubbels added 15 total tackles, 4.5 for a loss, with one sack and a forced fumble. Jaxon Vinson and Buchanan contributed 12 tackles apiece with Jaxon hauling in two interceptions. The boys played their hearts out for four quarters and left it all on the field.

Season Stats

The Tigers' record fell to 3-5 and just outside the playoff bubble this year.

Alex Vinson finished the season with 946 yards on 150 carries with an average of 135.1 yards per game. Trevin Larson, Hunter Buchanan and Jaxon finished with 484 yards, 183 yards, and 35 yards, respectively. Larson tossed the ball for 441 yards to Zach Reikofski (205 yards), Buchanan (95 yards), Owen Severson (73 Yards), Alex Vinson (29 yards), and Jaxon Vinson (38 yards).

Defensively, Alex Vinson had 113 total tackles, 39 solo, 13.5 for a loss, 1 sack, 12 hurries, 1 interception and 1 forced fumble. Bradee Gubbels had 75 total tackles, 34 solo, 15.5 hurries, 1 sack, 18 hurries, 2 forced fumbles. Jaxon Vinson had 95 total tackles, 31 solo, 3 tackles for loss, 3 interceptions, and 1 fumble recovery.

Hunter Buchanan had 87 total tackles, 25 solo, 2 for a loss, 1 interception and 1 fumble recovery. Other turnovers to help out the team were Zach Reikofski grabbing 2 interceptions and forcing 2 fumbles, Caden Wingert recovering 2 fumbles, Cody Gansebom jumping on a fumble and Trevin Larson grabbing down 1 interception.

Special teams play was led by Jaxon Vinson with 567 yards kicking followed by Ethan Davids 258 yards. Alex Vinson punted 6 times for 168 yards with 1 inside the 20 and Bradee Gubbels contributed 19 punts for 594 yards with 5 inside the 20. Alex Vinson scored 50 total points on the year followed by Larson with 46, Buchanan and Reikofski each adding 34.
