Mother Nature whitewashes Laurel event

LAUREL — Mother Nature wiped out months of planning here last week, cancelling the annual Night of Lights event.

Rain, wind and snow were just too much to compete with, organizers said. Because of an already-busy Holiday season, the event was not resecheduled.

Several community promotion activities being conducted along with the event are still going on, however.

Chamber members are still encouraging area residents to use the Chamber Punch Cards. These will be collected at the end of the work day on Dec. 14 and drawing will be held at that time.

Even though Santa and his reindeer couldn’t make it to Laurel due to it being way too icy to land his sleigh, he still wants to hear from area children. They are encouraged to write a letter or even color a picture and then drop it Santa’s mailbox next to Hometown Market by 5 p.m. Dec.

14. Everyone should make sure their name and address are on the letter or artwork.

Word Scramble is still being played, as well since the letters had already been placed for Night of Lights. Area residents are encouraged to load up the family for a fun outing looking for the letter at each Chamber business in a window or on the door facing the outside. Then, solve the puzzle and drop off their entry in Santa’s mailbox next to Hometown Market by 5 p.m. Dec. 14.
