Land purchase gives city a blank slate for development

LAUREL — Mark Patefield was more than 1,500 miles away when the process began of the Community Redevelopment Authority’s purchase of 99.9 acres purchased from L. Donovan and Alice J. Schuler Revocable Trust in June.
“I was actually in Florida on vacation when I got the call about the land becoming available, and if we were interested,” Laurel’s mayor said. “Myself, the city, the CRA (Community Redevelopment Authority), the council president, we talked about the process and opportunity.”
