Flowers are in bloom at the Little Red Barn

COLERIDGE — Continuing a family legacy is what helped spark Stefanie Brummels, owner of the Little Red Barn Store, Coleridge, to begin offering fresh flowers to her store’s inventory.

Brummels is the third generation to operate as a florist. Her grandmother, Ilo Downs, began a career as a baker in her hometown of Overbrook, Kan., but later added florist to her job title.

Brummels’ mother, Linda Kennison, would later continue the family legacy in the flower shop designing floral arrangements.

“I had an exciting childhood. It was always great seeing the customers come in to the shop and leave with a smile on their face, something about flowers makes people happy,” said Brummels.
