Wausmond one-act group headed to state competition

STANTON — The combined Wausa and Osmond one-act cast, which calls itself “Wausmond,” recently earned a first-place finish at the Lewis and Clark Conference one-act competition. The more than 80 member cast and crew followed that by competing in district one-act competition in Stanton on Tuesday, Nov. 27. Wausmond competed against eight other Class C schools for a chance to go to state. At the end of the day, the combined team of Wausa and Osmond actors brought home won the championship and the right to compete at state one-acts, which will be held at Johnny Carson Theatre in Norfolk on Thursday, Dec. 6, starting at 2:15 p.m.

The Wausa school was very welcoming in co-oping with Osmond.

“When Osmond came to us and didn’t have a director and asked to co-op, one of the things we thought of was to go back to a comedy because it is a good way to bring kids in,” said director Brad Hoesing.

Wausmond is performing ‘Mrs. Bob Cratchet’s Wild Christmas Binge’ this year. With the co-op comes a class jump. Last year, Wausa was in Class D1, and this year things change with Wausmond jumping to Class C1. Overall though, Hoesing does not seem worried, saying regardless of the class, the process of putting together a performance is still the same.
