Wausa awarded $350,000 grant for pool renovations

LINCOLN — Wausa is now a step closer to renovating the community pool. In September, the village of Wausa applied for a grant with the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, and this week the grant application was approved. Wausa will receive $350,000 — the full amount requested — to aid in pool renovations along with a new bathhouse. This is the most recent development of a project that has been explored over recent years. In 2017, the Wausa village Board “designated $700,000 from the Eunice Anderson estate funds toward the construction of a new swimming pool and bathhouse,” according to minutes from the meeting on Aug. 14, 2017. The funds were approved with the condition that remaining funds needed to be raised “with a time frame of 18 months of the date of this meeting on Aug. 14, 2017, subject to extensions and subject to being fully funded.” With over $1 million allocated to these renovations, the Board will now look toward the next steps. Board Chairman Bill Schumacher said in a phone interview on Monday that no official action has been taken by the Board yet, considering they have not met since being awarded the grant.
