Wausa Lady Vikings end the season at SubDistricts

PONCA — The Lady Vikes’ season came to an end last week in SubDistrict basketball action.

The Purple and Gold dropped a 45-29 decision to Creighton in the opening round of the SubDistrict tournament. The loss ends the Lady Vikes season at 6-16. The Lady Vikes played three very good quarters of basketball against the Lady Bulldogs.

The first half featured a defensive standoff as  both teams made it tough to find the basket. Creighton ended up with the 7-5 advantage at the buzzer. Wausa edged the Bulldogs 5-2 in the second frame to take a 10-9 lead into the locker room at the break.

The third quarter belonged to the Purple and Gold as they raced out of the locker room and kept on running, putting together a 15-7 scoring advantage to stake themselves to a 25-16 lead heading into the final frame.

The wheels came off in the fourth quarter, though, as the Red and Black shut down the Wausa offense, while pumping in 16 points of their own to earn the come-from-behind win.

Blair Wakeley paced the Wausa offense on the night, dropping in 10 points. Morgan Kleinschmit wasn’t far behind with nine. Kleinschmit also led the local team on the boards, cleaning the glass for eight rebounds.
