Wausa girls pick up a pair of wins

WAUSA — The Wausa Lady Vikings picked up a pair of close wins and suffered a lopsided loss during action last week.

Wausa defeated Niobrara-Verdigre, 35-28, Dec. 16 then traveled to Gayville-Volin Dec. 17 for a 40-37 victory.

The Lady Vikes’ pre-Holiday season ended Friday with a setback against defending state champion Wynot.

The Purple and Gold trailed 20-12 at the end of the first half against the Lady Lions, but rallied in the second half to earn the sevenpoint win.

The Lady Vikes sealed the win with a 16-4 fourth-quarter run to take the lead and the win.

Wausa was led in the contest by Esther Nelson’s 11 points and Clara Schindler’s 10 points.

The Lady Vikes built a 25-18 first-half lead against Gayville-Volin, then hung on in the second half for the 40-37 win.

Wausa was led in the contest by Morgan Kleinschmit’s 15 points, while Clara Schindler chipped in with 13.

Kleinschmit ended the contest with a double-double, as she also pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds.
