Wausa club volleyball team competes in MidPlains Storm invitational
WAUSA — The Wausa Club Volleyball team was back at it early Saturday morning in St Paul, NE. The Lady Vikings were in the MidPlains Storm invitation in the 16-age division. The Lady Vikings took on the MidPlains Storm team during their first match of pool play. They split the sets with them. The Lady Vikings won the first set 25-22 and then lost the second set 17-25.
The next match was against Nebraska X. The Lady Vikings won both sets with scores of 25-13 and 25-18. Their serving was exceptional during their two sets with over 10 aces between the players.
The Lady Vikings would then face a very good team called Nebraska Thunder. They would battle with them throughout both sets but come up short of the win, losing 20-25 and 18-25. After that match the Lady Vikings would be put into tournament play where they would battle for the gold.
The Lady Vikings would take on the Red Hornets for the first round. They came out strong and won the first set 25-14. The second set would prove to be a bit more difficult. The Red Hornets were determined not to lose the 2nd set. The Lady Vikings made some errors but rallied at the end to take this set to extra points. The Lady Vikings did come out on top finally with a score of 27- 25. This took them into the semi finals bracket facing Nebraska Thunder again.
The Lady Vikings were ready for the competition and battled the team quite well. Abby Kaiser had a scoring rally of over 6 points with 4 aces. The Lady Vikings took this set to extra points but just could not secure the win and ended up losing 26-28 in the first set and then 17-25 in the second set. This ended the Lady Vikings run in the tournament.
The Lady Vikings had a good run and improved from the first week of play. The Lady Vikings will travel to Sioux Falls this coming weekend to play in the Sanford Pentagon.
