Wausa boys pick up first win of the year

WAUSA — A balanced scoring attack led the Wausa Vikings to their first win of the year here Monday.

Four Wausa athletes hit for double figures in the 72-49 win over Knox County rival Santee.

The Vikes came out of the gates strong to build a 23-14 first-quarter advantage. Santee rebounded in the second quarter to outscore the hosts 15-13. Santee again looked solid to start the second half, as they matched the Vikes 13 points with 13 of their own to make it 49-42 heading into the final frame.

The fourth quarter belonged to the Vikings.

Wausa found its range in the final frame to outscore Santee 23-7 and seal the win.

Ethan Baue led the team in scoring, dropping in 17 on the night. Jaxon Claussen finished right behind him with 15 points. Skyles Kinkaid also had a solid night, hitting for 14 points. Cory Schumacher wasn’t to be outdone, though, as he made good for 12 points on the night.

In the Wausa Post Holiday Tourney, the Vikes lost 78-54 to Lutheran- Northeast, and fell 67-47 to Niobrara-Verdigre.
