Walthill puts an end to the Bears basketball season

LAUREL — Walthill ended Laurel-Concord-Coleridge’s hopes Thursday of going after a second straight state basketball title.

The Bears dropped a 65-61 SubDistrict championship game decision to Walthill.

The Bears started out in good shape, earning a 15-14 first-quarter advantage. The Orange and Black then extended that lead thanks to an 18-9 second quarter run.

Walthill climbed back into the contest in the second half, outscoring the home team 21- 14 in the third quarter and again in the final frame to earn the come-from-behind victory.

LCC was led by a balanced attack as Cael Hartung and Evan Haisch both hit for 15 points. Deagan Puppe chipped in with 12.

Jake Rath dominated the boards against Walthill, hauling down a game-high 15 rebounds on the night.

The loss ends the Bears season at 15-11.
