Volleyball season to begin August 27

OSMOND — This year, there are 20 athletes out for volleyball. The head coach for the 2020 season is Tiffany Rice and assistant is Justin Orr.

This year’s returning letter winners are senior Elisa Herrera and juniors Grace Gansebom, Macy Aschoff, Kiera Moes and Bailey Schmit.

The remaining athletes include: juniors - Lilly Gansebom and Macy Albrecht; sophomores - Cali Gutz, Taylor Thompson, Reese Johns, Leia Buchanan, Mary Jane Herrera and Kyah Gray; freshmen - Erica Heiman, Caydence Krienert, Anna Khany, Callie Hoffman, Tessa Gardner, Julianna Kumm and Annabelle Vinson.

Coach Rice commented, “During the summer, COVID-19 detoured the majority of our plans. A camp in Omaha was cancelled, and our team camp in Wayne was also cancelled.

“We were fortunate, however, to have Osmond alumnus Scott Haag visit and provide a camp for our team.  The camp covered skills for the athletes, as well as provided some suggestions to the coaching staff to assist us with a successful season.”

In addition, during the summer the athletes spent time in the weight room and conditioning to prepare for the upcoming season.

To start the season, the girls were scheduled to have a Jamboree game with Plainview on Thursday, Aug., 20, however, because of a change in date for school for Plainview, that was cancelled.

Osmond’s first game is set for Thursday, Aug. 27, in Wynot.

“We are excited for our season to start and will work hard to comply with guidelines set by each school to make all games safe and successful,” Coach Rice said.
