Vikes fall to state-rated Osmond in Post Holiday Tourney title game here
WAUSA — The annual Wausa Post-Holiday Basketball Tournament began on Thursday with a rematch between the Wausa Vikings and the Niobrara-Verdigre Cougars.
Although the Cougars had previously beaten the Vikings this year, Coach Schindler was confident in his team and their ability to overcome them.
It was an exciting start as the Vikes led the Cougars in the first quarter by a close four points.
By the time the fourth quarter began, the tension seemed to continue as the Cougars kept holding on.
They were no match for the Vikings, however, as the Vikings came out on top 64-58, qualifying them to compete for the championship match on Saturday.
Jaxon Claussen was the leading scorer for the Vikings with a whopping 34 points. Cory Schumacher added a solid nine points, and Addison Smith chipped in with eight points.
On Championship Saturday, the Vikings matched up with the Osmond Tigers. Osmond jumped out to a quick 39-14 lead over the Vikes in the first half.
After some adjustments, the Vikings were able to regroup and slow the bleeding during the second half with a 13-14 score in the third and an 11–17 difference in the final frame.
Unfortunately for the Vikings, it was too little too late, and the damage had been done.
The Tigers came out with the 70–38 victory to become the Post-Holiday Tny. champions
The Vikings were led by Jaxon Claussen, who scored twelve points, and Cory Schumacher, who put up another ten.
