Vikes fall in Parents’ Night contest

WAUSA — If you haven’t been able to watch the Viking basketball teams yet this year, I encourage you to either come out or tune-in online. Although the Vikes didn’t come out on top against Summerland, they put on one heck of a show as it was neck and neck the entire way through.

It was Parents’ Night Jan. 28, and the crowd was filled more than it has been since the pandemic began last year.

Spectators from both home and away watched as Seniors Cory Schumacher, Garrett Hegge, and Hunter Langman took one last stroll to center court with their parents by their sides. After hugs were given and pictures taken, it was time for the reason that brought everyone together — basketball.

As the game began, Summerland quickly came out on top. It took a couple minutes, and Josh Wattier’s drive for two, for the Vikings to get their heads in the game.

Once they focused in, they began to mesh and play as a team. The Vikings were able to keep it within reach going into halftime, being down by only three, 24–21.

The third quarter kept the crowd in just as much anguish wondering who would come out with the win as both teams scored 10 points each. The Vikings persisted and hung on as long as they could, but things just wouldn’t go their way as they lost by a mere four points, 47– 43.

Top scorers against Summerland were Jaxon Claussen, 13; Cory Schumacher, 10; and Addison Smith, 10.
