Tigers win one, lose one

(By Coach Wyatt Schuettler)

Osmond — The Osmond Tiger Football team won one and lost one in the last two games, defeating Niobrara-Verdigre and falling to Riverside.

Osmond 48, N/V 6

The Osmond Tiger football team’s efforts against Niobrara-Verdigre on Friday, Sept. 4, were led by Patrick Vinson, Bryan Solorzano, Alex Vinson and Ryan Schmit with 166 total yards. The Tigers won 48-6.

Osmond’s special teams efforts led to two punt blocks, one of which was returned for a touchdown by Bradee Gubbels. Ryan Schmit and Patrick Vinson were able to secure an interception a piece and Xander Brown was able to recover a fumble late in the game. The defense was able to provide great pressure on a run heavy Niobrara-Verdigre squad holding them to 114 rushing yards and a 15 percent third down efficiency.

Riverside 61, Osmond 6

Friday afternoon, Sept. 10, in Spalding was a warm one on the gridiron. Riverside has a very stout team that was able to have great success early and often running the ball. The Tigers defense was able to force the Chargers to the air and only allowed three third down conversions during the game. The defense also forced a turnover in its third straight game with Ryan Schmit recovering a fumble.

Offensively, the efforts were led by seniors Patrick Vinson, Bryan Solorzano and junior Alex Vinson grounding and pounding 94 rush yards. Patrick went 4/12 passing with his longest completion to Ryan Schmit for 13 yards.

The Tigers were defeated 6-61, however, having an opportunity to play a very good Riverside team early in the season, provides the framework for this young Tiger team to build upon.

The Tigers are back in action for Homecoming this Friday night, Sept. 17, vs. Windside at 7 p.m.
