Tigers run at Creighton invite; both teams place fourth

CREIGHTON — On Tuesday, April 26, Osmond traveled to Creighton on a very nice spring day. This is a smaller, six-team meet and many younger Tigers got a chance to step up. The team members who were to compete in the Norfolk Classic did not run at this meet. Osmond did win three events on the day.

The first gold medal went to the girls’ 3,200-meter relay team of Grace Gansebom, Kiera Moes, Caydence Krienert and Keli Aschoff. Their time was 12:24.0.

Keli Aschoff later won the 3,200 meters in a time of 14:52.0. Keli got out early and led from start to finish.

The final gold medal went to Erica Heiman in the 300 hurdles. Erica ran a strong race and covered the distance in 53.7.

Other girls’ events that scored well were the long jump, where Grace Gansebom was second with a leap of 15 ft., 6.5 in. She was also second in the 200 meters by a lean. Her time was her fastest of the season at 27.9. Kiera Moes was second in the triple jump at 31 ft., 4.25 in.

Other field events to score were the discus and shot put, where Macy Aschoff took fourth and sixth place medals, respectively. She was fourth in the discus with a mark of 88 ft., 4.5 in., and sixth in the shot with a toss of 28 ft., 6.5 in. Sophie Gansebom was fifth in the high jump with a leap of 4 ft., 4 in.

On the track, the 100 hurdlers did a great job. Heiman took fourth place (18.8), Moes fifth place (19.5), and Riley Wagner sixth (19.9). Riley also placed sixth in the 100 meters in a time of 14.3. Sophie Gansebom finished fourth in the 300 hurdles in 60.9.

The 1,600-meter relay team of Grace Gansebom, Sophie Gansebom, Heiman and Keli Aschoff finished in third place with a time of 4:56.8. The 400-meter relay team finished fifth in a time of 57.6. Team members were Moes, Sophie Gansebom, Heiman and Riley Wagner.

The boys started pretty well in the field events. Bradee Gubbels took third in the long jump with a leap of 19 ft., 4.75 in. and Hunter Buchanan finished fifth with a nice mark of 18 ft., 6.75 in. Both were season’s best jumps.

Owen Severson placed fourth in the high jump with a jump of 5 ft., 4 in. Patrick Vinson was fifth in the shot put with a toss of 35 ft., 9 in. Xander Brown finished second in the discus with a nice toss of 129 ft., 5 in. and Zach Reikofski was sixth with a mark of 106 ft., 8.5 in.

On the track, Buchanan placed sixth in the 100 meters with a time of 12.1. In the 110 high hurdles, Osmond place two athletes. Kaden Polt finished third in 16.8 and Jaxon Vinson was sixth with a time of 19.9. James Doyle ran to a fifth-place finish in the 200 meters in a time of 25.3 and also placed fifth in the 400 meters in 58.4.

The 300 hurdles was a nice scoring event for the Tigers, placing three hurdlers. Polt was second (44.9), Severson was fifth (49.1, and Jaxon Vinson placed sixth in a time of 51.3 after a fall. Matthew Alderson finished fourth in the 800 meters in 2:35.0. Two Tigers placed in the 1,600 meters. Dominic True was fourth in 5:22.4 and Robert Aschoff was sixth in 5:33.3. Dominic also placed fifth in the 3,200 meters in 12:03.6.

In the relays, Osmond did well. The 3,200-relay team of Dominic True, Caleb Miller, Alderson, and Robert Aschoff placed third in a time of 9:34.7. The 1,600-meter relay team also placed third. Team members Doyle, Jaxon Vinson, Buchanan and Noah Geneski covered the distance in 4:02.7. The 400-meter relay team of Noah Geneski, Jaxon Vinson, Doyle and Buchanan placed fourth in a time of 50.2.

“We had a very good day, competed well, and worked hard,” praised Coach Joe Ortmeier.
