Tigers complete 2021 golf season

The 2021 golf season came to a close this week as the Tigers played in two Invites and in district competition.

Randolph Invite

Osmond played the Randolph invite on Monday, May 10, in some of the better weather conditions that the team had all year. Senior Brady Stech was low man for the locals with a 98, followed by Baylen Guenther with a 105 and Caden Wingert with a 114. Pierce was the team champion and Cedar Catholic had low individual with a 72.

Ponca Invitational

The Ponca invitational on Wednesday, May 12, was a reschedule from April. All three Osmond players competed well in the 50-player field. Baylen Guenther finished in 19th place with a 107. Brady Stech landed at 24th place with a 111 total and Caden was close behind in 28th place with a 114. Ponca was the team champ of their own invitational.

NSAA District Meet

Tatonka Golf Club at Niobrara was the site of the D-3 district golf meet. Sixteen teams from northeast Nebraska competed on this difficult 18-hole course.

Freshman Baylen Guenther recorded his personal best on the year with rounds of 46-53 to finish with a 99. Senior Brady Stech carded rounds of 52-48 to card an even 100. Scores of 96 qualified for state in this meet so both were really close. Sophomore Caden Wingert challenged the long roughs all day and finished with a 120.

“I was really pleased with the progress these young men made throughout the season,” commented Coach Randy Jochum. “Having missed all last year set us back some time but the boys worked on consistency and certainly improved as the season went along.

“We are looking forward to continuing to improve next season and would love to have more players so we could compete as a team in meets,” added Coach Jochum.

Season averages for the players were: Baylen Guenther, 106; Brady Stech, 107, and Caden Wingert, 113.
