Tigers are too tough for Creighton Bulldogs

OSMOND — The Osmond boys’ basketball team improved to 6-0 on the season on Tuesday, Dec. 17, in its last game competition until the Randolph Holiday Tournament. Osmond played another great game defensively and displayed a balanced scoring attack, with four players scoring eight points or more.

Keaton Timmerman led the way in scoring, completing another double-double with 22 points to pair with his 10 rebounds. The defense was once again led by Aaron Chishiba. The senior guard shared some of the responsibility with his teammates but was the main defender in holding Creighton’s John Mitchell to just nine points, none of that coming in the final 15 minutes of the game. Chishiba knocked down a three-pointer, adding six rebounds and five assists to his defensive effort.

Ryan Schmit fulfilled his job defensively as well. The sophomore limited his assignment, Connor Hammer, to only two made field goals, forcing the senior guard to get his remaining six points on 10 attempts on the free throw line.

Ryan should be giving thanks to Timmerman, as the senior had a pair of monster blocks on Hammer in the first quarter. Those rejections helped keep Hammer and the Bulldogs from building momentum and served as a tone-setter for the Tiger defense the remainder of the game.

“I feel we got Creighton’s best shot and despite foul trouble still managed to have a five-point lead after the first two quarters,” said Coach Todd Schulze, “When we came out and outscored them by nine in the third, I knew our guys were ready to erase any hope of an upset the Bulldogs may have had.”

Osmond has held five of its first six opponents to under 40 points. Dating back to 2013-14, that makes it 56 wins in a row when the Tiger defense puts forth a below 40-point defensive performance.
