Tiger teams to begin action this week

OSMOND — Opening competition for Osmond High School winter sports teams has begun, with jamboree basketball competition at Howells-Dodge held on Monday and regular competition this Friday and Saturday, Nov. 30 and 1.

Basketball Starts Friday

The boys’ and girls’ basketball teams will travel to Randolph in the season openers on Friday. The two-quarter girls’ junior varsity contest begins at 4 p.m., followed by the boys’ junior varsity four-quarter match-up. The varsity girls are slated to play at 6:15 p.m. with the varsity boys to square off at 8 p.m.

Returning letter winners for the girls’ team are Makenzie Johnson, Mariah Stech, Mary Kahny, Hayle Krienert, Madeline Huwaldt, Hannah Ferry, Lexi Beacom, Elisa Herrera and Allie Aschoff. The girls are coached by Terry Viterna with Corey Lenton as assistant coach and volunteer assistant coaches Caitlin Kumm and Kim Huwaldt.

Boys’ team returning letter winners are Keaton Timmerman, Nick Reikofski, Aaron Chishiba, Justus Maertins, Graysen Schultze and Merrix Denn (a letter winner from Randolph now playing for Osmond). Their coach is Todd Schulze, with David Schmit as assistant coach.

Wrestlers Open Saturday

The first wrestling meet of the season for the Tigers is Saturday, Dec. 1. The team will travel to Creighton for its annual invitational meet which begins at 10 a.m.

Returning letter winners this year are sophomore Alexander Heiman and junior Alexis Solorzano. Other members of the squad are freshmen Colton Beacom, Patrick Vinson and Bodie True, sophomore Brenden Gillespie and juniors Mason Bykerk and Nicholas Timmerman and senior Troy Donner.

Their coach is Larry McKenna, with assistants Kyle Schmit and Eli Neitzel.
