Tiger boys win Hartington-Newcastle cross country invitational

HARTINGTON — The Osmond boys cross country team overcame some tough mid-90s temperatures to win the Hartington-Newcastle invitational on Thursday, Aug. 27. The Tigers were 10 points better than runner-up Hartington. The Wildcats’ star sophomore Carson Noecker won the meet more than two minutes ahead of second place.

Johnson Chishiba and Graysen Schultze finished in fourth and fifth place. Homer’s Grant Lander trailed the two Tigers until the last mile, when he made his mark and passed them. He had to hold on as the pair nearly ran him and the second place runner from Battle Creek down on the final 100 meters to the finish line. Johnson’s time was 19:29.36 and Graysen ran 19:29.96.

Sophomore Karter Johnson ran a solid race, collecting a medal at 13th place. Karter had a nice kick and passed a Ponca runner down the stretch. His time was 21:41.04.

Kaden Polt was the next Tiger to finish in 19th place. He ran a steady race and finished in a time of 22:25.59. He was followed closely by Robert Aschoff who placed 22nd in a time of 23:08.99.

Hunter Beacom and Bodie True were Osmond’s next two finishers in 33rd and 34th place. Hunter ran 24:07.42 and Bodie 24:12.94. Hudson Schultze edged James Doyle as they crossed the line in 43rd and 44th place. Hudson was clocked at 25:03.87 and James 25:11.0. Connor von Rentzell was next, placing 62nd in 29:37.16. Seventy-three runners completed the race.

Top finisher for the girls was junior Riley Wagner. Riley picked up her pace midway through the race and moved into seventh place and that’s where she finished in a time of 27:23.15.

Jozie Kumm also collected a medal, placing 15th in a time of 33:04.71. Lexi Beacom was the next Tiger to complete the course in 17th place in a time of 34:28.62.
