Stanton’s second-half surge does in Bears

STANTON — The LCC football team got off to a good start, but Stanton shut the Bears offense down in the second half and came away with a 46-16 win in a battle of unbeatens Friday.

Evan Schmitt connected with Deagan Puppe on a seven-yard pass to tie the game at 8-8, and the Bears took a brief lead when Evan Haisch scored on a oneyard run for a 16-8 advantage.

Stanton cut the deficit to two points at the half, then took control in the second half with three third quarter touchdowns to win the game.

Haisch finished the night with 91 yards on 21 carries to lead the LCC ground attack. Schmitt was 5-of-13 for 33 yards in the passing department.

Defensively, Austin Hall led the way with 10 total tackles, while Haisch and Sutton Ehlers each had seven stops. Cael Hartung and Puppe both had five stops.

The 2-1 Bears are off this week and return to action Friday, Sept. 18 at home against Elkhorn Valley.
