Randolph teams will host Ponca, LCC

RANDOLPH — Here is a look at the local varsity basketball scene.

Randolph Lady Cardinals

Games this Week: at Ponca, 4:45 p.m. Thursday; vs. Laurel-Coleridge-Concord, Saturday at 2:30; vs. Wakefield/Allen, 6:45 Tuesday

Outlook: Randolph has a real challenging week against quality opponents with revenge on the mind against Ponca after they beat the Lady Cardinals in the regular season and knocked them out of the conference tournament last year.

LCC returns a lot of girls from a team last year that beat Randolph.

Last week’s results: Lost to Osmond, 46-43.

Coach Marcus Pappenhausen Comments: “We want to improve on things that we struggled with in our first game. We need to get better at rebounding and playing our pace of game by limiting turnovers. If we can do those things, we should be able to stick around in each game and have a chance at the end.”

“Against Osmond, it was a back and forth fourth quarter, but unfortunately we came out on the losing end. Jaiden Taylor led the way with 11 points. Emmalee Harder followed with eight and Gracie Eledge netted seven. Harder also grabbed nine rebounds,”

Randolph Cardinals

Games this Week: at Ponca, Thursday; vs. Laurel-Coleridge-Concord, Saturday; vs. Wakefield, Tuesday

Outlook: Playing back-toback at home will be a welcome respite for the Cardinals following a tough loss last week.

Last week’s results: Lost to Osmond, 55-33.

Coach Mark Anderson Comments: “We played Osmond, which is a quality first game opponent. In the first quarter we were able to stay with them, 19 -13 at the end of one.  The physical play of their man-to-man defense took its effect in the second quarter.  Overall, we got solid play out of Carter Schnoor, Keaton Backhaus and Justin Haselhorst.  We will need to build on this when we play Ponca.”
