Powerhouse ends Bears football season

LAUREL — The Bears found out last week just why the Howells-Dodge Jaguars are considered one of the best eight-man football teams in the state.

The Jags knocked LCC out of the playoffs with a 54-20 setback.

The Orange and Black got off to a good start in this one, putting up 14 first-quarter points. Unfortunately, the home team matched them point for point — and then some as H-D held a 22-14 lead at the end of the first frame.

The Jaguars took control in the second quarter, limiting LCC’s scoring opportunities, while putting 24 more points on the board to take a 46-14 lead into the halftime break.

The Bears were able to find pay dirt one more time in the third quarter, but that’s all the offense they were able to muster in the contest as the Jaguars rolled into quarterfinal action with the 54-20 win.

The Orange and Black picked up most of its yardage through the air as Evan Schmitt connected on 8-14 for 230 yards. Deagan Puppe was his favorite target on the night, hauling in five catches for 158 yards.

Evan Haisch led the ground attack, churning out 122 yards on 20 carries.

The Orange and Black defense was led in the contest by Sutton Ehlers and Deagan Puppe who collected 13 and 11 stops respectively.
