Osmond Lady Tigers defeated in season opener with Wynot

WYNOT — The Osmond Lady Tiger volleyball team opened its season by traveling to Wynot on Thursday, Aug. 27.

To start the evening events, the junior varsity and “C” team of Osmond combined for one game against the Wynot JV and “C” team. Osmond played a tough game and defeated Wynot in three sets with the sets 4 and 5 being played by the Osmond “C” team. The scores were as follows; Set 1, Wynot 25-17; Set 2, Osmond 25-23; Set 3, Osmond 25-19; Set 4, Wynot 25-19; and Set 5, Wynot 15-9.

The varsity, too, played very well and put up a good fight against a very experienced and well-versed team. Osmond fell in three sets with scores of 14-25, 21-25 and 14-25.

For individual statistics, Grace Gansebom led the team in aces with 3, and digs with 9. Macy Aschoff led the team in kills with 9, and Kiera Moes and Lillie Gansebom in blocks with each having 1.

“This was a great season opener for us, as it provided us with information on areas we need to focus on for our upcoming games,” said Coach Tiffany Rice. “Wynot was fortunate to have height on their team, with one of their players being 6 ft., 2 in., which posed a challenge for our team whose tallest girl is approximately 5 ft., 8 in. Despite the height disadvantage, Osmond Lady Tigers worked hard, forcing Wynot to create errors.”

The Lady Tigers’ next game was a triangular with Niobrara-Verdigre and Creighton on Tuesday, Sept. 1, in Niobrara.
