OHS Tiger teams are seventh at Battle Creek invitational

BATTLE CREEK — On Tuesday, April 5, the Osmond track teams traveled to Battle Creek for their invitational. Strong winds and cool temperatures made for a tough day on the athletes. The home team Braves won both divisions and the Osmond Tiger teams placed seventh, the boys behind O’Neill and girls behind Elkhorn Valley.

Though gold medals were tough to come by, the boys did win the 1,600-meter relay. The Tigers outdistanced Battle Creek by a second and ran a pretty good time for the conditions. The team of Bodie True, Ryan Schmit, Gavin Geneski and Alex Vinson were clocked at 3:44.9. Osmond’s 3,200-meter relay team finished second to the Braves in a time of 9:25.4. Team members were Gavin Geneski, Hudson Schultze, Karter Johnson and Schmit.

Bodie True also picked up two fourth-place medals, one in the 200 meters and one in the 400 meters. Both times were good considering the stiff wind. His 200 time was 24.2 and his 400 time was 55.9.

Cali Gutz had a good day for the girls as she finished third in both the 800 meters and the 1,600 meters. Her 800 time was 2:37.9 and the 1,600 meter time was 6:13.7. Keli Aschoff placed sixth in the 3,200 meters in a time of 14:08.9.

The girls' 1,600-meter relay took third place in a time of 4:46.3. Team members were Grace Gansebom, Sophie Gansebom, Erica Heiman, and Gutz. The 3,200-meter relay team finished in fourth place in a time of 11:52.0 and team members was Gutz, Grace Gansebom, Caydence Krienert and Keli Aschoff.

In the field events, Grace placed sixth in the long jump with a leap of 15 ft., 5 in.

“I was very proud of the team’s efforts as the weather was tough and the competition was also very challenging,” Coach Joe Ortmeier noted.
