NSAA announces major change to next year’s State basketball tourney

LINCOLN — Next year’s State boys and girls basketball tournaments will look a little different.

The high school sports schedules had to be adjusted because of a conflict with the Big 10 Conference wrestling tournament, which is also slated for the Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln next March.

The change means that the NSAA girls and boys state tournaments will both be held Monday, March 7 through Saturday, March 12 in Lincoln.

The NSAA, Lincoln Convention and Visitors Bureau, University of Nebraska, Pinnacle Bank Arena and Lincoln Public Schools are committed to providing a championship experience for Nebraska’s best in girls and boys basketball, NSAA Executive Director Jay Bellar said.

All of the 2022 NSAA Girls and Boys Basketball Championship Finals will be televised live on NET on Friday, March 11 and Saturday, March 12.

A full schedule for the 2022 girls and boys basketball postseason and state championship events is still being worked out and will be released at a later date.

This will mark the second straight year that the boys and girls schedules had to be adjusted. This year the tournaments were spread out over five days so fewer venues were used in an effort to better protect fans and students from the possible spread of COVID-19.
