Local runners take third at State

KEARNEY —  Bloomfield-Wausa’s girls took third Friday at the State Cross Country Class D meet in Kearney.

The team also received scoring runs from Darla Nelson (21:02.32), Carrylee Martinson (21:39.09), Ella McFarland (21:54.05) and Madie Ziegler (22:01.84).

All but McFarland can return in 2021 and will hope to add to a trophy case that has three top-five finishes over the past four years.

Head coach Duane Wilken was happy with the team’s accomplishments this season.

“I was very pleased and grateful for the athletes to be able to compete during the season,” he said. “They did a great job of running this past summer to prepare themselves for the season. I was grateful for the opportunity to coach such great student athletes.”

Like the sun rising in the east, the program should once again be expected to shine bright in 2021.

“I believe both the girls and boys teams have a bright future in front of them,” Wilken said. “The girls and boys teams return four of the top five runners on each squad where they were both conference champions.”
