Local girls claim L&C cross country title

WAUSA — The Bloomfield/Wausa girls took the Lewis and Clark Conference/Bloomfield Invitational, outdistancing Hartington-Newcastle for the crown.

Darla Nelson captured the individual time with a 20:47 while running in what head coach Duane Wilken called “unseasonably warm temperatures.”

Christina Martinson finished in fourth place despite running in her first meet of the year.

Other medalists were Carry Martinson (sixth), Madie Ziegler (eighth) and Tiernee Freeman (ninth).

Addison Wynia finished in 14th place.

In the boys division, Addison Smith medaled in fourth place to lead the Bloomfield-Wausa boys team to a fourth-place finish.

Others that set the pace were Tyler Hanson (17th), Devin Rosberg (34th) and Cade Wakeley (48th).

Bloomfield/Wausa will head to Thursday’s District meet in Pierce with the girls starting at 4:30 followed by the boys.

The top 15 individuals and the top three teams will qualify for the state meet which will be held on Friday, Oct. 22 at the Kearney Country Club.
