LCC seventh graders complete their first track season

COLERIDGE — Laurel-Concord-Coleridge seventh grade track athletes earned a great deal of experience this spring.

Colton Campbell found his events in the longer distances as the year went on. He also played a big part in many relays. As a seventh grader, he also tried out some jumps and hurdles. I loved Colton’s willingness to just try. Colton placed fifth in the 800 at the Laurel Invite with a time of 2:47. I am anxious to have him back next spring.

Dillon Munter ran a great 400 throughout the season and sealed himself a spot in the 4x400 that was also successful. At the Laurel Invite, he was clocked running a 1:04. Dillon also loved the Triple Jump (or that is what he told me) and jumped 26’6” at the Ponca Meet. I feel Dillon will also be able to try more things and find the perfect event next season and will play a big part of the Bulldog Squad next year.

Derek Nelson threw shot and discus this year. He also ran in some relays and tried the 100. Derek learned the ropes of the track world and will be back next year with one year of experience under his belt.

Taven Ocampo also as a seventh grader was able to compete in a variety of events this year. He placed fourth in the 800 at the Laurel Invite with a time of 2:43. He also high jumped and went 4-8” at the Laurel Invite. He also participated in our relay teams. He has had a great first year in track.

Kolten Settje proved he was a pretty solid performer in our throws this year and he just did a great job of making sure life was always interesting. He oozes personality and it wasn’t hard for him to go and strike up conversation with other teams. At the Laurel Invite, he threw the shot 33-3” placing third. He placed sixth at the Ponca Invite throwing 81-2. We also saw his speed in the Weightman’s Relay at the Winside Meet. We will be seeing more of ole Settje next year in the sprints, he held his own in the 100 at the Laurel Invite and I know he is going to get faster and stronger with age. Settje looks good in Bulldog Blue, he will be an asset next year.

Tucker Waterbury ran sprints and played a part in the relays this year. At the Laurel Invite, we got to see him run the 100 in 15.6. In the 200, at the same meet he ran a time of 35.66. He also ran a variety of relays. Tucker also jumped 11-5” in the Long Jump at the Laurel Invite. Tucker will benefit from a year of experience and will be back as a Bulldog next year.

Karlie Ferris came in as a sprinter and left track with a little more desire to do some distance work which was fun to see. She really is a talented lady. She ran the 1200 at the Laurel Invite with a time of 5:25 and just out of the medals. She also was a solid long jumper going 11-2” at the Laurel Invite. She also did a few relays this season. She improved so much and I am glad to say she will be back in Blue in the spring next year.

Laney Folkers had a great year in the triple jump and the sprints. She started off at Hartington and really sat a pace for herself to complete at this level. She ran 15.46 at the Laurel Invite in the 100. In the triple she flew to a 27’9 finish at the Laurel Invite placing her third. She also ran relays for us. She will be back for more action as a Bulldog and will make a big difference on this team.

Kennedy Hall, the lefty, showed her skill in the throws this year as a seventh grader. She threw 23-1 at the Laurel Invite in shot. Kennedy earned her first placing at the Laurel invite in discus throwing the discus 58-6. She also was a part of the Weightman’s Relay at the Winside Invite. Kennedy’s favorite color is Bulldog Blue and she will be back to score some more points throwing next year.

Addison Hoeppner started off trying some sprints at the beginning of the season, kind of maybe ignoring the family roots that I have come to know as “Hahr Blood”. Soon she came around though and we found some serious talent in the distance running events. It was so fun to see her work so hard to improve as the season went on. She placed first in the 1200 at our own invite with a time of 4:46. She also ran in the 4x400 relay which had a lot of success this season. It will be fun to see Addison grow as a runner next year in her second year as Bulldog, I know her Grandpa’s stopwatch will be watching.

Stella Kock tried some sprints this year, she improved throughout the season. She participat ed in a variety of relays throughout the season. She also tried the 100, 200 and 400 at different points throughout the season. I think Stella really benefited from this year of track and her experience will help us to find the perfect event for her next year.

Holly Patefield tried the sprints and competed in the long jump this spring. She improved as she learned and worked hard at it. I am anxious to see what a year of experience will do for Holly. She also participated in some relays this year.

Darly Garcia-Perez participated in the sprints and long jump this year. She also participated in some relays this year. She improved as the season progressed. She will be another one of those athletes that will get to try more events next year and we will be able to fit her into her best event a little easier.

Emily Rasmussen was a Jack of all trades. She jumped, she tried sprints and ran relays. She even tried the 800. I feel she is going to get stronger as time goes on so it will be interesting to see her try some different events next year again.

Tyler Recob became the 800 girl this season. She really worked hard at learning the race and improved throughout the year. She ran the 800 in 3:11 at the Laurel Invite placing fourth. She also triple jumped.

Camryn Sohler worked hard in track this season. Camryn competed in the 800 at the Laurel Invite and had a time of 3:19. Camryn also competed in the 400. Camryn works hard at every practice and wants to improve. She is an asset to this Bulldog Squad.

Brynlee Stanley also had a great season. Brynlee had great success in triple jump, at the Laurel Invite, she jumped 27-2 placing fourth. Then she tried her luck at the distance run, with the 800 at the Laurel Invite. She also tried out some relays throughout season and really worked hard, I will be anxious to have her back next year.

Kate Tasler became a distance runnier as the season went on. It may not have been a huge passion of hers, but she held her own there. She ran the 800, 1200 and the 1600. She gained confidence and just wanted to improve and I loved that part of her. She will be back in blue next spring also.
