LCC golfers finish 12th at State Tournament

COLUMBUS — Coming away with a 12th place finish at the Class C State Girls Golf Championships, the LCC girls golfers are already looking forward to next season.

With four of the five players competing at state as underclassmen, coach Christina Patefield said the girls are already excited about the 2021 season.

“The talk coming home was about how hard they’re going to work next summer for next season,” she said. “They want to get back to state next year.”

The Lady Bears shot within their averages on both days of the two-day tournament, shooting identical rounds of 415 to finish with an 830.

Sarah Karnes was the leading golfer for LCC, shooting a 96 on the first day and a 97 on the second to finish with a 193.

Right behind her was Jadyn Kinkaid, who improved from a 103 to a 98 to shoot a 201 for the two-day tournament.

“She worked hard all summer and it showed,” Patefield said of her lone senior. “She was a good leader for us this season.”

Sidney Groene shot 104 and 106 for a 210, Hope Swanson shot 112 and 114 for a 226 and Delaney Hall rounded out the LCC effort with a 115 and a 119 for a 234.

“I thought they played well,” Patefield said. “They played their normal game and stayed within their averages on the state course, so I was proud of them.”
