LCC girls split a pair of games

LAUREL — The LCC Lady Bears split a pair of games during action last week to move to 6-6 on the season.

Defense dominated in Thursday’s game against rival Cedar Catholic.

The Orange and Black limited Cedar to just four first-quarter points, while the Lady Bears tossed in six of their own for the early advantage.

Cedar rebounded in the second frame to outscore LCC 8-4 and take a 12-10 lead into the locker oom at ther half time break. The two teams traded basket for basket to open the second half, as both squads ended up putting up 11 points in the third frame.

Cedar took control in the final frame, hitting their shots when they counted, to pull out the 38-28 win.

Cedar Catholic Coach Craig Wortmann said defense was the key to his team’s victory.

“Our team defense and offense are looking much better and is why we were able to win these games,” Coach Wortmann said.

The Lady Bears fell behind early against Winnebago, trailing 10-9 after the first frame and 20-16 at the break.

The Orange and Black dominated the second half to pull out the win.

LCC hung 20-11 on Winnebago in the third quarter to take control, then hung on for the win, as both teams put up 18 in the final frame.

The Lady Bears travelled to Wayne Tuesday and also have games with Tri County NE and Hartington-Newcastle on the schedule.
