Lady Tigers win second game in conference tourney

WAUSA — The Osmond Lady Tigers played against Plainview in the consolation round of the Lewis & Clark Conference Tournament on Tuesday, Feb. 4, and won 50-38. Wakefield-Allen defeated Osmond in first round play of the tournament, and Plainview also lost their first round game in conference play, matching the two teams up again.

This was the third time Osmond has played Plainview's Lady Pirates this season. So far Osmond has managed to come out on the winning side in all three games.

Osmond had a pretty balanced attack in this one. Only 19 turnovers were committed as a team, while stealing the ball 22 times. Leading in steals were Grace Gansebom, Maddy Huwaldt and Kiera Moes with four steals each. Not all team members were able to see playing time in this game, but it was still a complete team effort.

"Every one of these young ladies deserve credit in the victory," said Coach Terry Viterna.

Top point-getter was Kiera with 16, followed by Maddy, Grace, Macy Aschoff and Bailey Schmit, with seven, seven, six and six points, respectively. Senior Maddy Huwaldt led in rebounding with seven boards.

"Our free-throw percentage has been improving, as well as our inside shooting," Viterna said. "By quarters, Osmond scored 12, 12, 16 and 10. This was a pretty balanced scoring game for us. Our record now stand's at 8-10 with two regular season games left. Districts are just around the corner as the season has gone by very quickly."
