Lady Tigers win last two season games

The Osmond Lady Tigers had backto-back games last week, hosting Winside on Thursday, and then traveling to Wausa on Friday.

Osmond vs. Winside

OSMOND — The Lady Tigers took on the Wildcats from Winside on senior night,Feb.11, and the last home game of the regular season. The first half saw the Lady Tigers put together a solid defensive effort, holding the Lady Wildcats to just six points.

Osmond wasn’t able to catch the offensive rhythm as quickly as they’d like, despite getting into the paint more than they have all year. The shots were good shots, they just were not falling.

In the second half, the offense kicked into a higher gear, scoring 32 secondhalf points to close out the Lady Wildcats and send Osmond’s three seniors out victorious by a score of 49-28.

I want to especially thank Lexi Beacom, Elisa Herrera, and Hayle Krienert for their hard work and dedication to our program during the past four years. They have given us a lot and it was a privilege to coach them.

With this also being parents night, I want to thank our parents for their support of our program and for all they do for their daughter(s).

Osmond was led in points by Macy Aschoff with 15, followed by Kiera Moes with 14. Leading the rebounding efforts were Kiera Moes (9) and Grace Gansebom (5).

Osmond vs. Wausa

WAUSA — Having just finished a game 24 hours before, the Lady Tigers were tasked with taking on their neighbors to the north, the Wausa Lady Vikings. We knew ahead of this game that we’d see Wausa again for our first round of subdistricts on Monday, which made this game have a unique feel to it. Regardless, it was a fun game to be a part of.

Our first half of this game was not one that we’d write home about, so to speak, but in spite of 14 first-half turnovers and a few other miscues, we went into halftime only down seven (24-17).

At halftime, we quickly made light of the fact that how the first half went could not repeat itself in the second half if we wanted to be successful and come out a winner in this game.

As the second half progressed, it was clear our girls were ready to respond in an emphatic way. We held Wausa to just 17 second-half points to our 35, winning by a final of 52-41.

Erasing a seven-point halftime lead and playing the way we did in the second half proves the true type of team that we are. We’re a resilient bunch that will fight like crazy to win games and, to our girls’ credit yet again, they did just that.

We were led in points by Kiera Moes (19), Grace Gansebom (13), and Bailey Schmit (10). On the boards, we were led by Kiera Moes with seven, Macy Aschoff with six, and Bailey Schmit with five.

What has been really impressive especially these last few games is our team free throw percentage. Missed free throws have been an issue at times this year, but in our last two games we shot 81% and 74% from the line, getting 20 or more free throw attempts each game. This is a credit to our girls attacking the rim as well as they have all year and putting the defense in a tough spot trying to defend our drives and our shooters.

Score by Quarter

Osmond 8 9 15 20 = 52

Wausa 4 20 12 5 = 41
