Lady Tigers start off volleyball season hot

OSMOND — The Osmond Lady Tiger volleyball team played in three games recently, and have started off the season hot, winning all three games.

Osmond vs. Wynot

On Thursday, Aug. 26, the Osmond Lady Tigers volleyball team faced off with the Wynot Blue Devils in the Lady Tigers’ season and home opener.

The night opened up with the “C” team and junior varsity games. The Lady Tigers fought hard in both of these games but fell in straight sets in both: “C” team — 8-21, 18- 21; junior varsity — 19-25, 15-25.

The nightcap game was the varsity game where the Lady Tigers were set to face off with the Norfolk Daily News sixth-ranked Blue Devils. The Lady Tigers came away with a five-set thriller win.

Offensively, Grace Gansebom led the Lady Tigers with 10 kills, followed by Macy Aschoff and Kiera Moes with 9 and 8, respectively; Bailey Schmit, 5; Cali Gutz, 4; Callie Hoffman, 2.

Grace Gansebom had 18 set assists while Cali Gutz had 14; Bailey Schmit, 3, and Lillie Gansebom, 1.

The Lady Tigers found much success behind the serving line, recording 17 aces throughout this game. Macy Aschoff, Kiera Moes, and Bailey Schmit each served 4 aces while Lillie Gansebom added 3, and Grace Gansebom and Cali Gutz each had one. Osmond vs. Niobrara-Verdigre

On Tuesday, Aug. 31, the Lady Tigers hosted their first triangular of the season. The Lady Tigers faced off with Niobrara-Verdigre in the night opener. Then, Niobrara-Verdigre faced off with Creighton, followed by the nightcap of Osmond vs Creighton.

In the night opener, the Lady Tigers took down the Niobrara-Verdigre Cougars in straight sets.

Offensively, Grace Gansebom led the Lady Tigers with 8 kills, followed by Macy Aschoff with 6; Bailey Schmit, 4; Kiera Moes, 3, and Cali Gutz, 1.

Cali Gutz led the Lady Tigers with 9 set assists, followed by Grace Gansebom with 7 and Bailey Schmit with 1. At the service line, Grace Gansebom served up 4 aces, while Bailey Schmit and Macy Aschoff served 3 aces each and Kiera Moes, 1.

Cali Gutz and Grace Gansebom each recorded a solo block. Kiera Moes and Bailey Schmit combined for a block as well.

Defensively, the Lady Tigers were led by Macy Aschoff who recorded 8 digs; Kiera Moes, 5; Bailey Schmit, 4; Cali Gutz, 3, and Grace Gansebom and Lillie Gansebom, 2 digs each.

Coach Wiseley said, “The girls have set their goals and knew how they wanted this game to go. We just tried to play our game and win the passserve game. It worked well for us.” Osmond 26 25 = 2 NVHS 24 20 = 0

Osmond vs. Creighton

In the nightcap game of the triangular, the Lady Tigers faced off with the Creighton Bulldogs. The Lady Tigers won this thrilling game in three sets.

Offensively, Macy Aschoff led the Lady Tigers with 11 kills, while Grace Gansebom added 6; Cali Gutz and Kiera Moes, 4 each, and Bailey Schmit, 3 kills.

Grace Gansebom led the Lady Tigers with 16 set assists, while Cali Gutz added 9; Leia Buchanan, 2, and Macy Aschoff, 1.

Behind the service line, Kiera Moes and Grace Gansebom led the Lady Tigers, recording 2 aces each; Bailey Schmit and Macy Aschoff each added 1 ace each. At the net, Kiera Moes and Callie Hoffman combined for a block.
