Lady Tigers host three teams in past week

The Osmond Lady Tiger volleyball team had three competitions in the past week, hosting Wausa on Oct. 5, Elkhorn Valley Oct. 6 and Plainview Oct. 8.

Osmond vs. Wausa

OSMOND — Osmond Lady Tiger volleyball team hosted the Wausa Lady Vikings on Monday, Oct 5. The evening started with the JV team taking on the Lady Vikings.  The Lady Tigers played a hard fight, but lost in two sets with scores of 18-25 and 10-25. The Lady Vikings had aggressive servers that made it difficult to get a good pass to Osmond’s setter.  

The individual stats are as follows: Anna Kahny – 1 ace, 3 digs; Callie Hoffman – 4 digs; Caydence Krienert – 1 ace, 2 kills, 3 digs; Erica Heiman – 3 aces, 1 assist, 3 digs; Leia Buchanan – 1 ace, 3 kills, 2 assists, 5 digs; Taylor Thompsen – 1 dig; Tessa Gardner – 1 dig.

Finishing off the evening, the varsity Lady Tigers took on the Lady Vikings, but fell short, losing in three sets with scores of 8-25, 21-25, 21-25.  

The Lady Tigers took time to get the evening started, however in sets two and three, they showed intensity and determination despite the losses. In set three, Osmond changed up the rotation and Coach Tiffany Rice was impressed with how the team handled the change and the versatility they showed. The Lady Tigers served well, tallying six aces and in set two had a run of 10 points.  

Individual stats from this game are as follows: Grace Gansebom: 3 aces, 4 kills, 9 assists, 5 digs; Elisa Herrera: 2 assists, 10 digs; Bailey Schmit: 2 aces, 3 kills, 5 assists, 8 digs; Kiera Moes: 5 kills, 2 digs; Macy Aschoff: 5 kills, 7 digs; Lillie Gansebom: 1 ace, 2 kills, 4 digs; Cali Gutz: 2 kills, 1 assist.

Osmond vs. Elkhorn Valley

Osmond volleyball team hosted the Elkhorn Valley Lady Falcons for the annual Pink Out game in which both teams wear pink jerseys to honor and support breast cancer awareness.

The evening started off with a “C” team game. The Lady Tigers put up a good fight to some aggressive servers, but fell short in two sets with scores of 8-21 and 15-21. The Lady Tigers had to undergo some position changes, and they all worked together and adjusted very well. As they continue in their volleyball career, they will learn that versatility is crucial. 

The individual stats for this game are as follows: Anna Kahny – 3 kills, 1 assist, 5 digs; Annabelle Vinson – 3 aces, 1 assist, 2 digs; Callie Hoffman – 1 ace, 1 assist, 2 digs; Caydence Krienert – 1 kill, 1 assist, 2 digs; Juliana Kumm – 1 kill, 2 digs; Tessa Gardner – 2 aces, 3 digs.

The junior varsity game was a fight-to-the-finish game, but the Lady Tigers fell short to the Falcons in three sets with scores of 18-25, 25-22, 11-15.  During this game, the Tigers showed determination, fight, and intensity and that, in itself, the coaches are proud of.  

The individual stats of this game are as follows: Anna Kahny – 1 ace, 4 digs; Callie Hoffman – 1 ace, 2 kills, 1 assist, 4 digs; Caydence Krienert – 1 ace, 2 kills, 4 digs; Erica Heiman – 2 kills, 13 digs; Juliana Kumm – 1 kill; Leia Buchanan – 1 ace, 2 kills, 10 assists, 9 digs; Taylor Thompsen – 4 aces, 4 kills, 1 block, 6 digs.

Finishing off the evening, the varsity team took on the Lady Falcons in a hard-fought five-set game, but fell short with scores of 20-25, 21-25, 25-12, 9-25, 8-25. The Lady Tigers started the game off strong with a lot of intensity and energy and by the third set started to let up on the intensity. Osmond struggled from the serving line with a serving percentage of 81.3% but as a team put up seven blocks and 71 digs.  

The individual stats from this game are as follows: Calli Gutz: 6 kills, 6 assists; Kiera Moes: 6 kills, 6 solo blocks, 4 digs; Macy Aschoff: 2 aces, 5 kills, 1 solo block, 8 digs; Leia Buchanan: 2 digs; Grace Gansebom: 2 aces, 9 kills, 18 assists, 12 digs; Lillie Gansebom: 1 kill, 8 digs; Elisa Herrera: 2 aces, 4 assists, 22 digs; Bailey Schmit: 2 aces, 4 kills, 1 assist, 15 digs.

Osmond vs. Plainview

Finishing up a busy week of volleyball for the Osmond Lady Tigers, the team hosted the Plainview Pirates on Thursday, Oct. 8.  

“This was a great week of volleyball and it was more unique in that all teams got to play,” said Coach Tiffany Rice. “In addition, the Lady Tigers celebrated parents’ night in which the school recognizes each player and their parents and we also acknowledge our senior players in which, this year, we had one senior who has been a tremendous asset to our team.”

The evening started off with a “C” team game. The Lady Tigers put up a good fight to some aggressive servers, but fell short in two sets with scores of 14-21 and 16-21.  The Lady Tigers also served well, but more importantly, moved their feet aggressively to get to the ball on coverage to put up some impressive digs. 

The individual stats for this game are as follows: Anna Kahny: 1 ace, 4 assists, 2 digs; Annabelle Vinson – 2 aces, 1 assist, 4 digs; Callie Hoffman – 3 kills, 4 digs; Caydence Krienert – 1 kill, 5 digs; Juliana Kumm – 1 ace, 1 kill, 2 digs; Tessa Gardner – 1 kill, 2 digs.

The JV team also came up short in two sets with scores of 17-25 and 7-25. Osmond again dug the ball well when being hit by the Pirates, however they struggled on serve receive, which led to the inability to set the ball up to get a kill.  

The individual stats of this game are as follows: Anna Kahny – 4 digs; Callie Hoffman – 1 kill, 4 digs; Caydence Krienert – 1 kill, 4 digs; Erica Heiman – 4 digs; Juliana Kumm – 1 dig; Leia Buchanan – 1 kill, 3 assists, 4 digs; Macy Albrecht – 1 dig; Taylor Thompson – 1 kill, 6 digs.

Finishing off the evening, the varsity team battled the Lady Pirates and defeated them in four sets with scores of 25-13, 25-19, 25-22, 25-22. After a week of working hard on serve receive, the girls controlled the serve receive of this game and allowed Osmond’s setter to put up 33 sets.  

The Lady Tigers also put up 12 ace serves and 57 digs. These individual items change a game outcome drastically and led the Lady Tigers to this win.
