Lady Bears’ state hopes fall one match short

WEST POINT — Laurel-Concord-Coleridge came up one match short of reaching the state tournament, falling in a three-set match to fourthseeded Archbishop Bergan in the D1-4 district final at West Point-Beemer High School recently.

The Lady Bears, winners of the D1-4 subdistrict a week earlier, found themselves in a tough battle with the Knights. LCC played well in the early going and kept things close before Bergan claimed the first set 25-20, and couldn’t keep pace after that as Bergan won the final two sets by identical scores of 25-16 to earn the trip to the state tournament.

Erica Wolfgram led the Lady Bears in kills with seven, while Makayla Forsberg and Delaney Ehlers each had six. Kinsey Hall and Erica Benson had three kills apiece and Berniece Mc-Corkindale added two. Hall had 19 assists, Ehlers and Jordynn Urwiler each had two and Wolfgram and Forsberg both had one.

Forsberg, Ehlers and Wolfgram each had two ace serves and McCorkindale added another. Benson had the team’s only block in the match.

In the digs department, Forsberg and Hall each had seven, Ehlers had six, Urwiler and McCorkindale had three apiece, Wolfgram added two and Benson, Haley Christensen and Kaylee Donner each had one.

The Lady Bears ended the season with a 17-13 record.
