The girls started off strong, scoring three runs in the first inning while holding Laurel to one and ended up winning the game with a score of 13-12. Game 2 pitted the Tigers against Wausa. In the first inning, the Tigers were held scoreless by a very tough defensive team and were held under the run limit the next two innings. Game 3 saw the Tigers taking on the host team, Crofton. The girls once again came out slow with the bats only scoring one run in the first two innings. Going into the bottom of the open inning the score was 4-15.

The young Tigers did a great job of refocusing and believing in themselves and scored 9 RUNS in the bottom of the inning, ultimately falling short 13-15, but showed great toughness!

Coach Tyler Gansebom gave a tourney recap: “We were very proud of the girls and how they played in the tournament! They ran up against a few tough teams but ended with a third-place finish on the day. They were faced with adversity but did a great job showing determination to overcome some of the tough circumstances!”

The 8-and-under girls also traveled to Laurel on Tuesday, June 22, and had a rematch with their first round tournament opponent. The girls made the trip to Wausa for another rematch on Thursday, June 24, this time against a Wausa team that ended up taking first place in the tournament. The girls started off strong, scoring three runs in the first before scoring none in the second and then rebounding to score two in the third.

Wausa also scored three in the first but were held to one run in both the last two innings, resulting in a 5-5 tie. This was the best defensive game the girls plays all year and showed their determination playing a tough team!

Scoring runs were: Elli, 2; Winter, 1; Klaire, 1; Bristal, 1.

The 8-and-under team also finished their season with a trip to Crofton on Tuesday, June 29, and finished the year with another great hitting performance, playing to a 12-12 tie.

“Both the 6-and-under and 8-andunder teams made incredible strides throughout the year and were a great group of girls to coach,” Gansebom said. “All were very willing to learn the basics of baseball with hitting, running, throwing and catching, but all also did a great job of learning the benefits of being good teammates and supporting each other along with way! The 6-and-under girls ended the season with a record of 4-0-3 with the 8-and-under girls earning a record of 6-3-3. Great job girls! Thanks to Bill Steffen for helping coach and for all the rest of the base coaches, practice helpers and parents for pitching in along the way!”
