Girls’ Softball Contests

12-AND-UNDER

14-AND-UNDER

This summer has proven to be a different one when it comes to softball in Osmond. Our 12- and 14-and-under teams consisted of girls from 10 to 14 years old helping to create two teams.

Our 12s had a good year, winning some and losing some. They made strides in pitching and hitting this summer.

The 14s had a slow start and were a pretty young team consisting of more than half of them being 12-and-unders. No matter their age, the talent level of the team we played, or the score or the game, these girls played their hearts out and always kept a positive attitude.

Given that quite a few of our league games were cancelled because of COVID-19, we took this opportunity to play teams that were outside of our comfort zone. Some highlights of the summer are Kaydance Maertins hitting an in-thepark grand slam against Laurel on 12s, and an over-the-fence home run against Pierce on 14s, coming back to win the game against Randolph on 14s, and pitching effort put in throughout the season by Kaydance Maertins, Julianna Kumm and Caydence Krienert.

The 14-and-under team went to state. There were no district tournaments this year because of COVID-19. They also cancelled Class D state and only had A, B, and C. Normally we’d go to D, but given the circumstances, we decided to go to C state for the experience. Being a higher level of play than we are used to, the girls did a great job.

A couple of Randolph 14s — Jessa Backer and Ella Scott — came with us to state to help out and they fit right in. Even though we went 0 and 3 at the state tournament, I saw some darn good softball played by these girls.

There is a night and day difference between the team I started with in May, to the team that left it all on the field at state.

The 12-and-under roster included Alexa Aschoff, Piper Hoffman, Brianna Kumm, Carriana Kumm, Deanna Kumm, Kaydance Maertins, Kaleigh Miller, Addison Miller, Ava Reikofski, Ava Severson

The 14-and-under state roster included Aschoff, Jessa Backer, Gardner, Callie Hoffman, Piper Hoffman, Krienert, Brianna Kumm, Carriana Kumm, Juliana Kumm, Maertins, Kaleigh Miller, Ella Scott, Vaughn
